Great news!

Guess what!

I don't have cancer! Now I for sure don't have brain cancer OR cervical cancer.

Most of you don't know that we were worried for a bit, but now you can rest easy knowing that I for sure don't. The doctors still don't know what's wrong with me, but at least it's probably not life-threatening!

Life is definitely looking positive to me today, after a long crappy depressing week.

Here's why:

  • It's Friday
  • It's the weekend before Thanksgiving
  • Kyle and I are coming up with fun plans for tonight to celebrate me being cancer-free
  • I am so close to being done with my Christmas shopping (what does one get for one's husband?!)
  • My Thanksgiving holiday plans are looking awesome (thanks mostly to Nancy taking me to Twilight next week! Yes I gave in to the temptation, judge all you want)
  • It still hasn't snowed
  • I listened to Christmas music for the first time today! A little early maybe, but it was great.
  • In a month I get to go HOME and see my family!
  • Oh, and I don't have cancer

Is this awkward?

Kyle and I want to lose weight. As soon as there were rings on our fingers, we feel like we got fat--even though there weren't any drastic negative changes in our habits! Maybe it's just a mindset, because we aren't ACTUALLY that much bigger. But you know how sometimes, when people get married, they suddenly seem a lot bigger? I just don't want people to see me and think that I've let myself go because I "don't have to attract a man anymore". My worst fear is the "Oh honey..." look or words or abstract thought! Here's news for you--I, and most other married women, still want to look hot!

So anyways, we are being SO GOOD. Our food intake has changed dramatically, and we're trying to have a less sedentary lifestyle. Instead of waffles overflowing with syrup for breakfast, I eat an apple. Instead of a bottle of soda, I have a bottle of water with those cute little "On the Go" flavor packs (because I hate drinking water). Instead of driving Katy home, we walk Katy home. We've outlawed a lot of delicious foods, and I'm getting used to not eating them. We write down our weight every morning (we just bought a fancy new scale) and write down what we've eaten and what we've done to exercise that day. Anyways, Nikki inspired me to blog about it, even though it's a teeny bit embarrassing to admit my body-image issues on the internet! BUT, the good news--it's only been one week, and I've a)lost some weight (ok, not MUCH, but every little bit helps!) and b) I feel different and skinnier, even if I don't look it. And that's after one birthday (cake) and one wedding (cake)! So, that's great.

The reason behind this? Kyle bought me the most beautiful Anthropologie shirt (yes, Anthropologie, can you believe it! thank heaven for massive sales) and it fits, but it doesn't fit perfectly--and I refuse to wear it until it looks as beautiful as it's supposed to. This shirt has to achieve it's destiny as being gorgeous and wonderful! So, come Christmas, hopefully I'll be wearing this shirt in all of it's glory.

It is so freezing outside.

Yesterday I finally went to the SHC and had a chat with Dr. Nielsen about my head. I got prescribed some crazy vitamins that can potentially help with my frequent migraines (it's getting to be pretty ridiculous--every other day I am out of commission! So, if I've neglected to call you back or something, that's why). Maybe these vitamins aren't THAT crazy, but Smith's didn't have them. Kyle and I had to trek to Good Earth natural foods store, where I felt OUT OF PLACE. I know Nieman really likes their granola and everything, but I couldn't stand to be in there. It smelled funky. BUT they have every kind of whacko vitamins that exist, so they fo sho had my tamer, more common ones.

Something funny: One little 100 mg pill of Vitamin B2 is 5880% of what your body needs every day. FIVE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND EIGHTY. And guess how many of those pills I'll take every day? FOUR. That means I am consuming 23520% of what I need. Every single day. I swear, I'm going to start sprouting extra limbs and reading minds soon! Kyle and I worked it out--I could just eat over 900 bowls of Raisin Bran every day and get the same amount of riboflavin. I'm also taking HUGE magnesium pills, but apparently our bodies actually need magnesium so I'm just taking 200% what I need. No big deal.

Also, I finished the Dr. Laura book. And LOVED it. Love her. I think that most wives should read that book. She says some really important things I know it's going to help me be a better wife--the wife that Kyle deserves!

Also, we watched 27 Dresses last night (yay free rentals!), and had VERY low expectations--so we were pleasantly surprised to like it! Obviously, it's a stupid movie--but a good stupid movie. Katherine Heigl is one of my favorites.

SO, let's hope that this medicine works so that I don't have to move on to any expensive ones! Man...the prospect of fewer migraines is REALLY great. Doc Nielsen said that they probably wouldn't work for a couple weeks or so, but maybe there will be a miracle?

The Day of a Million Dreams...shattered

Well, Saturday was going to be the best day ever.  Early that morning we decided that it was going to be the Day of a Million Dreams.  When I found out that Paul Newman died, I reconsidered our plan--but then I realized that Paul Newman would have wanted us to be happy.

So, we just did things that we wanted to do.  We went to the mall and got our free pound of See's Candy (Chocolate Buttercream mmm).  It's my birthday in a couple weeks (don't forget!) so we went in to stores, hoping to see some things that I want that Kyle could get for me.  We ran in to Emily and CB a couple times, which was fun!  Then we gorged ourselvs on Old Spaghetti Factory--and had the creepiest waitress ever.  She was like, trying to seduce Kyle in front of me??

After lunch, we picked up Katy and went to Joann's for some fabric for Emily's wedding guestbook that is going to be soooo pretty because Katy is super talented and can bookbind.  Then we dropped her off, picked up some Smart Cookies, and went to the International Cinema!  International Cinema + Smart Cookie is a tradition that I hold dear to my heart.   We saw Les Choriste, which I have seen a million times and loved, and which Kyle saw for the first time and loved.

I guess it WAS a good day--but it's overshadowed by the crappiness of that night and the next day.

We spent Saturday night and Sunday with a nasty bout of the flu, or something like it.  It's good that we were both struck at the same time, so that we could each understand what the other was going through.  We spent most of the time moaning and writhing in pain, a pitiful sight I'm sure.  The craziest part was our weakness.  We could not do anything other than crawl to the bathroom to throw up.  We were crazy dehydrated, but were completely helpless.  Katy finally rescued us late Sunday afternoon, bringing lots of Sprite, Saltine crackers, and applesauce.  Watered down Sprite is really what cured us.  So since 7 pm on Saturday, all we've eaten is Saltines and applesauce.  And that's after completely empyting our bodies.  SO--good weight loss plan, right?

Kyle was able to sleep last night and woke up weak, but more or less functioning.  I, on the other hand, did NOT sleep last night and was still plagued by nausea and the most intense muscle pain I've ever experienced.  Two nights in a row, with one pain-wracked day in between?  I'm pretty pathetically exhausted.  So I couldn't wake up at 5:45 this morning, or go to class or work.  It's 11 and I'm still pretty pathetic.  It would feel really great to shower, but it still sounds too hard.  So instead I'm blogging and nibbling on some Saltines that Katy left by my bed.

Sicky sick sick

It makes me mad that scientists don't treat the common cold like it's the Motaba virus. I think that people should be working frantically around the clock to find a cure, and they should be stealing army helicopters and tranquilizer-gunning down monkeys in the forest, and probably the country should be under a state of martial law. And Morgan Freeman and Dustin Hoffman and Donald Sutherland and Kevin Spacey should be there, and maybe even a young and trashy Patrick Dempsey. (Yes I just watched Outbreak.)

Anyways, I'm sick, but hopefully I'll be over it soon. Kyle is sick too, but his immune system is way better than mine. I've still been able to hang out with Lucy this week, thank heavens, as long as I Purell myself all the time. The other night Kyle and I got to babysit her and it was so fun. I love babies, especially her. Having Lucy know me and love me is the best feeling. Putting her to sleep was the cutest thing in the world--and so easy! When I'm with her, I'm kind of constantly on the verge of tears because I just love her so much and think she's so perfect and adorable! Is that weird? (I'm not pregnant. I know a couple of y'all look for clues. Loving babies and a tendency towards tears are a usual thing for me.) I'm so sad that she's leaving tomorrow :(

Maybe that's the real reason that I'm always about the start crying.

Lame-o

Ok...yesterday or the day before, I was talking to Kyle and he told me about something and I was like "Wow, that's awesome! That's blog worthy!"  and...of course I don't remember.  But I'm excited that something cool happened, even if I don't remember what it is! Ok man that's bugging me, how annoying!

Umm yeah so I really have nothing to write about--I'm just blogging to appease right now.  Today I have to go to the SHC because I am sick(again), and we think it's a reaction to the medicine I'm taking for the other reason that I am sick.  That sucks.   It's enough to keep me out of school and work for today.  I am trying really really really hard to get better, because in two days Lucy will be here and there is absolutely no way that I am going to be sick while I should be having massive amounts of fun with her!  She is pretty much what I live for, so I have some massive motivation to get healthy again.  If she wasn't coming, I'd probably be sick for another week because I'd refuse to go to the health center--whereas now, I'm RUNNING there.  I was there--was that last week, oh man no it was earlier this week!  It was good.  They confirmed that I was sick and gave me TWO kinds of antiobiotics--which, put together, only cost me TEN BUCKS.  Yes that is awesome.  Last time they gave me a prescription it was 8 pills for 80 bucks, so I decided to suffer instead--or just chug Excedrin Migraine pills.

Yeah, this post is pretty dang lame.  I can't think of any way to redeem it so I'm just going to stop.
