I Want to Believe

October 13th has always been my favorite day. I'm pretty sure I mention it on my blog every year. This year it just seems extra special--probably because of my rejuvenated obsession withX-Files. I always watched it and loved it, it just seems different lately. Maybe it's because Whitney came back, so we've been having designated X-Files nights instead of just watching it randomly. It is just THE BEST SHOW EVER.

My love affair with X-Files began when I was 11. Kayla introduced me to it--which I'll always be grateful for. My 12th birthday party (my one and only surprise party) was super exciting because we watched the first X-Files movie--for some reason I've always remembered that. It just spiraled out of control from there. 8th grade was awesome because every Monday I spent the first ten minutes of Social Studies discussing the previous night's episode with my teacher Mr. Lamoreaux. I have a ton of Sunday night memories because of it--watching scary episodes with Dad, mostly. I remember the first episode that Christy and Katy actually watched with me--Duane Barry. Oh man, I remember watching Closure, the last episode about Mulder's sister Samantha--Christy and I bawled. It was so depressing when the series ended (although it was hard for me to watch seasons 8 and 9--without the Mulder and Scully duo, WHAT IS THE POINT?).

When Mom and Dad bought me the series box set for Christmas a couple of years ago, I felt like the luckiest girl in the world. I still do. I burst into shocked tears at the time. I've put it to good use since then.

The 2nd movie wasn't great, but it was so good to see Mulder and Scully again. Not to even mention SKINNER, who for some reason I will love to my dying day. It's all about the characters. When I say that I love Mulder (and I DO LOVE MULDER), it's not in a way that Kyle should be jealous about. Honestly. I don't even see his attractiveness anymore. I love him the way I love a character in a book that I have read my entire life. Does that make sense? Scully, on the other hand, I only love because she's hot. Just kidding. She is though. I love both of them separate and together. And Skinner and Frohike and Langly and Byers and Krycek and Deep Throat. Man. I just can't help but sigh.

Anyways. 1013 is the X-Files number. October 13th is the X-Files day. Katy and I are on our 4th episode, and going strong.

Again--I have to just sigh.

Oh man, it has been SO LONG since I watched X-Files. I'm kind of ashamed of myself, actually. I should start buying the seasons on DVD. Or asking for them for Christmas. I'm still haunted by episodes I saw like 10 years ago. THAT is the mark of a good show.

That was moving. I wish I was watching them with you guys. Do you remember getting in a SERIOUS fight over our couch position for X Files? I remember actually trying to throw a punch at you. We took the fight to mom to deliberate and she looked up from her book and told us no one could watch X files that night. We were so mad. I think we immediately apologized to each other and promised mom we were fine and then still watched it. Wow-long memory. probably should have just called you to tell you that....awkward....this is Christy by the way not mom...

Oh man oh man, 10/13 is the best day of the year. We've come a long way, X-Files and I. Remember the old days when I would only watch it if I saw the Lone Gunnman in the opening credits? Yeah...yeah that's still true. I mean, without THEM, What's the point??

The X-files retrospective is just what this tired teacher needed to see before bed. Such fun memories. Do you remember that I didn't watch because I was teaching seminary and I couldn't stay up that late? (like 10?) I didn't get on the X-files bandwagon until almost the end. But it's like the parable of the workers at the vineyard. Even the guys who come in late have a good time! :)

And this really is me, not Christy posing on my computer!

Ok, first off, I was reading the first comment from Karen and I thought it actually was your mom and I was just imagining her throwing a punch at a younger you. And I laughed out loud before I realized it was Christy.

Second.... why have I never watched an episode of X-Files?! How did I live with you and not do this? I think I would like it.
