Um being pregnant

Pregnancy has kind of changed me into a drastically different person.  There are fundamental parts of my personality that are just so ME--except they're not anymore!  I don't know if it's being sick all the time or just being pregnant. Whatever, I hope I snap out of it eventually. I don't care about being prompt anymore, I don't like to plan things (!), and I'm vaguely anti-social.  Guys, I FORGOT BIRTHDAY WEEK.  Until like two days before Kyle's birthday!  I felt so guilty.  Never in a million years did I ever suspect that could possibly happen.  That is evidence that Morgi has STOLEN MY BRAIN.

(Morgi is the non-gender specific fetus name we chose.  It means "shark" in Welsh and is our favorite Welsh word.  Christy/Danny/Lucy just call it "Sharky" instead, which I think is very cute.  When we know the gender, it will become Vector or Velocity.)

The most obvious change is my conversation.  I am no longer full of sparkly fun things to say.  What do I talk about instead? Throwing up.  Maybe because this is how I spend my days:
  • throwing up
  • trying not to throw up
  • thinking of foods that will be the least gross to throw up
  • not leaving the house so that I don't have to throw up in public
  • cleaning my toilet so it is more pleasant to throw up in
Yes, that is about it.  It has been a fun couple of months, let me tell you!  Luckily, this stage is beginning to pass.

Man, now I'm blogging about throwing up.  WHAT HAS BECOME OF ME?  Christy made me feel better when she told me that when she was pregnant she always felt the need to describe her throwing up experience to Danny.  I'm glad it's not just me.

Now, some promises about Pregnant Becca Blogging:
  • I will never refer to myself as "preggers" or "prego"
  • I won't describe my vomit
  • I will be able to talk about things other than babies
  • I will, however, feel free to talk about being pregnant because I will want to remember it later
  • I will not overly complain, even if I do in real life, because I am grateful and happy to suffer through this
  • I will not post weekly baby updates as they come to me in my email, although I might tell you what fruit or vegetable Morgi looks like occasionally, because they pick such wacky comparisons
  • I will post minimal "baby bump" pictures, and then only as my mother demands them.
  • I will never go into graphic detail about unmentionable body parts or procedures (because to me they ARE unmentionable on a blog)
  • If I'm going to talk about something that might be weird or gross, I will give full warning
  • But that probably won't ever happen so don't worry.
I think that's it for now.  I'm glad I feel okay today because we are going to have fun!  Amanda and Jack are going to stay with us tonight, and we invited some friends over to hang out tonight too, so I get to play hostess.

I do have to say this at least once but I may repeat it several times:  Kyle's price is above rubies.  I mean, he's not a woman, and I don't mean this because of his virtue, although he is very virtuous I'm sure.  This got too complicated.  Let's start over.  Kyle is amazing. He is the perfect man for me to have married and I'm extremely grateful that I did.  He has been taking care of me wonderfully.  Not only does he do the dishes, laundry, cooking, and grocery shopping, but he is also sympathetic and understanding of my pain/sickness/discomfort and does all he can to ease it.  He doesn't think I'm a wuss at all, and he constantly reminds me of why this is all happening in the first place. He is great.  Okay now I'm done.

Progress?

It's March.  That's a START I suppose.  But man, even though this has been a pretty mild winter compared to past years, it has been INTERMINABLY long.  I'm yearning for spring more than I usually do.  Yesterday Kyle and I decided to pretend it was warm and went on a picnic after church--we definitely had to bundle up to keep from freezing.  I was thinking that maybe it would be springy and warm soon...but Kyle said not for at least another month, maybe a month and a half.  Bitter truth.

All of the Easter candy commercials are NOT helping.  The colorful Reese's miniatures, Reese's eggs, AND the classic Cadbury bunny commercials come on ALL THE TIME.  And man I need a Reese's miniature and/or a Cadbury Mini Egg SOON.  And by "a" candy, I mean "a large quantity of" candy.

The chocolate rice krispy treats sitting next to me will have to suffice for now. MAN life is so hard.

Oh boy(s)

I can't believe I haven't blogged about our new calling yet.  Well, "new" calling.  It's been nearly a month since we got called and sustained.

I'm always extremely nervous when I'm about to get a calling, because I assume the worst--and a teaching position would be the worst.  Kyle is an awesome Sunday School teacher but I would rather die.  Relief Society teacher (I've done that before) is equally terrifying.   So it was with great trepidation we met with our 2nd counselor...with amusing results.  We are Cub Scout leaders!  We're in charge of the Wolf Den, the little 8 year olds.  We have a TON of little boys in our group.  I know nothing about Scouts, and Kyle doesn't remember anything, but we're figuring it out.

We've only had one activity with our boys, because of Primary activities and the group Pack night.  It was...challenging.  I think we learned from it.  Our next activity is tonight and we will definitely be making changes.  It turns out that 8 year old boys are insane and wild.  I guess this is a good learning experience?

Woooo!

Yesterday my family (minus Katy and Kyle and me) went to Disneyland as a post-cancer hurrah.  It was Lucy's first time--and she was in heaven.  She is obsessed with princesses, so she freaked out with joy when she got to meet and hug them.  PLUS Danny got a sweet motorized wheelchair, so they didn't have to wait in any lines.  It sounds like the perfect Disneyland trip.

Lucky for me, they thought it made perfect sense to drive from LA to southern Utah and extend their vacation.  They're meeting us in Zions tonight and I am freakishly excited for our trip!  I LOVE Zions.  My family has been going there for years. I've really wanted to take Kyle there and have him experience our favorite Zions traditions, and now I finally get to.  PLUS I get to hang out with Lucy.  I can't wait to get there.  We're taking off after Kyle gets home from work.  I charged Katy with making awesome CDs to amuse us on the drive down.  I have Valentines Day treats for everyone AND we're having an early birthday party for Kyle.  The weather is even pretty nice down there--in the upper 50s!  It hasn't been that warm around here for months.

Last time I went to Zions, Kyle and I weren't dating but we were talking on the phone every night--because I was in California for the summer.  My family was taking a trip to Provo but we stopped at Zions first.  I was SO EXCITED to see Kyle and go on our first date.  That was when Zions was seriously on fire and we had to cancel the hike we had planned because of the whole smoke inhalation issue.  I still sat outside on the lawn by our hotel to talk to Kyle for hours that night--I remember parts of that conversation even now.  Mom was so worried I would die from the smoke.  Talking to Kyle was too fun though, I wasn't going to miss it for anything.  And two days after that was our first date!  Awwww.  Anyways, Zions is a really big deal to me and I can't wait to take Kyle to my favorite places there.

It's going to be an awesome weekend.

New Restaurant!

Kyle and I LOVE finding new fun places to eat.  It's always so exciting and I feel like I have to tell everyone about it.

Tonight we (and Katy and Ashley) went to Slab Pizza.  I saw it over on CJane's blog and decided we had to try it.  You go and for $3.75 get a QUARTER OF A PIZZA.  And okay, it's disgusting to eat a quarter pizza, BUT not this kind.  This pizza is light and thin and for some reason, totally fabulous.  I can't eat much at one time, and yeah I was definitely full after eating there, but I didn't even feel sick.  It helps that the pizza is really really good.  And it's pretty fun to hold a whole quarter pizza and just EAT IT.

I liked the tables and chairs and music.  We chatted with the owner guy and he was really cool.  They've only been there a month but they're doing really well apparently.

They have really interesting kinds of pizza.  3 of us just got pepperoni because that's what we like, but Ashley got a delicious BBQ chicken pizza.  CJane posted about the Thai Chicken, which is all peanut buttery, which sounds crazy.

Oh the weird part--it's under Campus Plaza.  I assumed that the only places under Campus Plaza were sketchy barbershops, BUT apparently not!  We didn't let that stop us from trying it, and it definitely won't stop us from going back.

It just felt like a really cool, kind of funky place.  We are definitely excited about going back.  We just have to make sure to be really hungry when we do.

I'd post pictures but I'm on the wacko computer--our hard drive is shot so we're running on a Linux cd or something--I have no clue what enables me to be on the internet right now, Alan did something cool to it.  We'll get a new hard drive one of these days.

There's Something Wrong With Me

I just can't get into 24 this season.

I don't know what it is.  I mean, Jack is back.  He's not dying of whatever disease anymore (I honestly don't remember what it is, just that his skank daughter saved him somehow, the end of last season was so boring and lame mostly because WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO TONY?), he's looking good and still tough and everything.  CTU is even back, which is great news--although it's in New York which bugs me for some reason and has the least likable director ever (maybe I'm just bitter that it can't be Bill anymore because OH WAIT, BILL IS DEAD YOU GUYS, DEAD).

I should be liking this season.  Here is why:

David Anders.  Of Alias and Heroes fame.  LOVE him.  He's a nice Russian mobster this season, and he's cool.  He's risking shiz to help his brother (I think it's his brother, like I said, it's hard for me to pay attention this season) and I respect that.

I really liked Anil Kapoor in Slumdog Millionaire.  I think it's neat he's in 24.  I don't love his character (adultery isn't cool) but I don't blame Anil for that.  He's a good actor.

I used to hate Chloe, but I have to like her now--if only because she is the ONLY GOOD GUY LEFT.  From the original season, that is.  Other than Jack.  It's so lame that 24 likes to take everyone you've ever loved and then RIP THEM TO SHREDS--multiple times, in some cases.  Man.  This bitterness still runs deep.  WHYYYYYYY.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I watched a season of Battlestar Galactica.  Ok, maybe just a little bit ashamed.  Anyways, it's cool that Starbuck is now in 24.  Except I don't like her long hair.  I never thought she was attractive in the first place though, kind of too manly.  Her little side-plot is BORING though.  And it's lame/unbelievable that she's engaged to...

FREDDIE PRINZE JR.  IN 24.  Come on---that is HILARIOUS.  And while I know he's a total joke, I have to remember that time in 7th grade when I was totally in love with him and had a poster of him in my room.  It's so great that he's all tough--he's the field ops commander!  And yet such a pretty boy.  Anyways, hysterical and GREAT.

So, even with all the above reasons that this should be a good season, I am completely bored by it.  I still watch it every week, but only because Kyle still loves it.  There have been bad seasons before (let's be honest) and I always still managed to be excited every Monday night.  I think I just sort of broke up with 24 in my heart when they killed Bill (my grief is still raw) and turned Tony into a loser (after killing him off, bringing him back seasons later, pretend that he's bad, turns out he's still good, and then oh wait turns out he really IS bad).  I just can't forgive them for that.

It's sad to not care about it though.  I wish I could.  I'm going to try.
